STONIS TO RECEIVE ARBOR DAY FOUNDATION'S ENERSEN AWARD

04/01/99
Nebraska City, Neb.--Joseph Stonis, of Cape Coral, Florida, will receive one of two 1999 Lawrence Enersen Awards from The National Day Foundation at a special awards ceremony to be held here on Saturday, May 1. The awards ceremony is part of the Arbor Day weekend celebration held in Nebraska City from April 30-May 2. Enersen Awards recognize exemplary tree planting and conservation work at the community level.

For the last 17 years, Stonis has been a volunteer leader in his community's tree planting and beautification effort, leading to Cape Coral's designation today as a National Arbor Day Foundation Tree City USA. Stonis' contributions include serving on community committees, writing environmental newsletters, coordinating school tree plantings, working on landscape and tree ordinances, and assisting city workers and other groups with tree-related projects and decisions.

Others being honored this year include Jack Herschend, Branson, Missouri, also a winner of a 1999 Enersen Award for his outstanding reforestation work in the Ozarks; and the Missouri Department of Conservation's "Missouri Arbor Week Activity Guide," winner of a 1999 Celebration Award for its commitment to teaching children the value of trees to the environment.

The National Arbor Day Foundation is a nonprofit education organization dedicated to tree planting and environmental stewardship.
