2006 National Arbor Day Awards
J. Sterling Morton Award
Tony Dorrell, Woodstock, Virginia
The J. Sterling Morton Award, given to a person whose pursuit of the Arbor Day Ideal has become synonymous with that of J. Sterling Morton himself. Mr. Dorrell truly has dedicated his life to the conservation of our environment. Mr. Dorrell has worked numerous positions in the Forest Service ranging from being a District Forest Ranger to Director of Cooperative Forestry.
His passion for the natural world has guided him towards some of his biggest accomplishments such as contributing to the 1985 Farm Bill Conservation Reserve, 1990 Farm Bill first ever Forestry Title, and the America the Beautiful Presidential Tree Program, and even though he had retired, he continued serving as a consultant for the National Forest Foundation for a while.
