2012 National Arbor Day Awards
Public Awareness of Trees Award
Project Plant It!—Richmond, Virginia
Dominion launched Project Plant It in 2007 to raise student awareness about the importance of caring for and planting trees. Five years later, they celebrated the distribution of their 100,000th tree seedling, which will eventually grow up to the equivalent of 250 acres of new forestland. Project Plant It has received high-profile media coverage in the Washington Post and Richmond Times-Dispatch, actively used social media and annually selects a third grade program participant to become spokesperson.
