Bulletin #12: What City Foresters Do

Career Information

The best source of career information is at the website of the International Society of Arboriculture. Visit the International Society of Arboriculture’s publication information. For job opportunities in urban forestry, visit treelink.org’s Joblink.

Booklet

Greening America — Tree City USA is an excellent handout booklet for city councils, tree boards, civic organizations and others who need an introduction to the basics and benefits of urban forestry programs. Copies are usually available from state foresters’ offices, or you can go to the shopping pages here at arborday.org. A single copy is available free and there is a nominal charge for quantities.

State Newsletters

An excellent source of up-to-date information about what is happening in urban forestry is the newsletter published by most state forester’s offices. These go by such names as Georgia Tree Talks published by the Georgia Forestry Commission and Idaho Community Trees, a quarterly publication of the Idaho Department of Lands – Community Forestry Program. For information about getting on a mailing list, contact your state forester’s office.
