There is an abundance of books available that provide more details on how trees grow and how to help. Here are some that should be on anyone’s list if serious about the study of trees and their care:

• Arboriculture–Integrated Management of Landscape Trees, Shrubs and Vines by Richard W. Harris, James R. Clark, and Nelda P. Matheny

  A comprehensive compilation of research findings and the results of extensive field experience. This has become a bible for professional arborists.

• Arborist’s Certification Study Guide

  This is the book used by professionals who are preparing to take an exam leading to arborist certification by the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA). It can be equally instructive for lay people with a serious interest in trees. It is an excellent source of information about how trees function and their proper planting and maintenance.
