Join us on Saturday, April 26th, from 9 AM to Noon at Dean Park (805 Main Street) for a fun-filled morning dedicated to trees and the environment!
This annual celebration will bring together community members, town departments, and organizations for a morning of activities, giveaways, and education. Whether you’re looking to plant a new tree, learn about sustainability, see the animal show, or just enjoy a morning at the park, there’s something for everyone!
500 Free Trees – First Come, First Served!
One of the highlights of our Arbor Day celebration is our bare-root tree giveaway. SELCO will be distributing 500 trees from 9 AM to Noon on a first-come, first-served basis. To receive a tree, you must bring proof of residency or a SELCO bill (limit one tree per family).
Why are we giving away trees? Trees provide shade that helps reduce energy costs, improve air quality by absorbing carbon dioxide, and contribute to a more sustainable environment for our community.

This year, we are offering five tree varieties:
🌳 River Birch – A fast-growing, hardy tree known for its striking peeling bark and resistance to pests and disease. Great for adding texture, shade, and energy savings to your landscape.
🌸 Purpleleaf Sand Cherry – A small ornamental tree with deep purple foliage and delicate pink flowers in the spring. Perfect for adding a splash of color while also providing shade.
🌲 Colorado Blue Spruce – A classic evergreen with silvery-blue needles and a symmetrical shape. It makes an excellent windbreak, helping to reduce heating and cooling costs.
🍂 American Sweetgum – A tall, deciduous tree known for its vibrant fall colors and unique star-shaped leaves. It’s a fantastic choice for shade and seasonal beauty, helping to cool homes in the summer.
🌿 Weeping Willow – A graceful, fast-growing tree with flowing branches that thrive near water sources. It provides ample shade and helps with soil erosion control.
More Than Just Trees!
In addition to the tree giveaway, the event will feature a variety of exciting activities, including:
🌿 Informational booths from local conservation and environmental organizations
🌍 Engaging activities for kids and families
🍩 Delicious refreshments, donuts, and snacks at the Snack Shack, with all proceeds benefiting the Share the Warmth program

🐍 Live Animal Show at 10 AM – Head to the Dean Park Bandstand to see a fascinating presentation featuring live animals from Animal Adventures!
🌱 Tree Planting Demonstration – Learn proper tree planting techniques from the Shrewsbury Parks Department as they plant a new tree in Dean Park.
