Tree Planting Ceremony

Arbor Day at Bard Arboretum

Bard Arboretum will celebrate our 18th year as a campus arboretum with a ceremonial tree planting at the Bertelsmann Campus Center. One of our main goals of this celebration is to educate the public about the the history and benefits of trees which include providing shade and cooler air temperatures, improving air quality, reducing noise pollution, filtrating storm water run-off into streams and rivers, providing food and shelter for humans and wildlife. We will be planting a native sugar maple tree to add to the small collection already in this popular location. Sugar Maple, also known as rock maple, is best known as the primary source for maple syrup and their bright autumn foliage. The 'Green Mountain' cultivar has durable foliage that resists heat and drought, has an oval crown, and has above-average hardiness.
