Study: Trees Have a $31.5 Billion Impact on Home Values
LINCOLN, Nebraska (Sept. 8, 2021) – The Arbor Day Foundation opened applications for the 2022 Tree Line USA recognition, which recognizes utility companies for their commitment to safe and reliable electric service by demonstrating best practices in public and private utility arboriculture. Last year, almost 150 utilities across the United States attained Tree Line USA status.
“Trees are a critical part of landscapes all across the United States,” said Dan Lambe, president of the Arbor Day Foundation. “We applaud the utilities who are leading the way in improving safe and reliable electric service for their communities and citizens through trees.”
Tree Line USA utilities benefit from lower line clearance costs from proper pruning, lower peak energy demand and more public exposure by meeting Tree Line USA requirements. Communities also benefit from the program by having less tree mortality from proper tree care, fewer downed lines during storms, reduced energy costs from strategic tree planting for energy conservation and a broader urban forest canopy to reduce heat islands.
To receive Tree Line USA recognition, eligible utilities must meet these five core standards:
Recognized utilities will receive a plaque, emblem, decals and other promotional materials to increase public exposure of their Tree Line USA recognition.
This program is made possible through the collaboration with National Association of State Foresters who bring expertise in balancing the demands of expanding utility needs in communities alongside the benefits of providing adequate care for urban forests.
