Arbor Day Farm to Commemorate Tree Planter's Holiday With Weekend-Long Celebration

LINCOLN, Nebraska (April 23, 2024) – National Arbor Day is Friday, but the Arbor Day Foundation is celebrating all weekend long. Visitors are invited to Arbor Day Farm to kick off the season among nature with food, fun and special events.

A full calendar of events can be viewed here. Some highlights include:

Friday, April 26

  • Free Admission to Arbor Lodge, 9am-5pm
  • Live music on the terrace at Lied Lodge with Evans & Moore, 6pm-9pm

Saturday, April 27

  • Arbor Day Orchard becomes one of only five noncommercial growers worldwide to care for Smitten Apple Trees. Arbor Day Orchard experts will plant 100 trees and in 3-4 years, each tree will yield about 100 apples. The history-making tree planting is set for 11am in the Orchard. Attendees will receive grab bags with a free Smitten Apple.
  • A Wildlife Encounters presentation featuring a wallaby, bull snake, glass lizard and armadillo in the Tree Adventure Theater, 12:30-1:15pm.
  • A performance from children’s music group String Beans on the Treetop Village deck behind Tree Adventure, 2pm.
  • Curated dinner in the Woodland Grove, 7pm. Tickets can be purchased here.
  • 30-minute tours of the largest public lilac collection in Nebraska, featuring 215 specimens. Attendees should meet near the playground at Arbor Lodge State Historical Park at 1pm, 2pm & 3pm (same times on Sunday).

Sunday, April 28

  • Free yoga on Hazelnut Lawn. The adults-only class begins at 7am with a family-friendly session at 9am.
