Arbor Day Farm Offers Family Fun for AppleJack

Nebraska City, Nebraska, Sept. 14, 2004-AppleJack, the fall harvest celebration here, will be held this year Sept.18-19, and historic Arbor Day Farm is hosting many special events. These include an artists' exhibit from 1-5 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 18, on the south side of the farm's Woodland Pavilion, and a one-woman reenactment of pioneer life from 1 to 5 p.m., Sept 19 at the Canopy Tree House at Arbor Day Farm.

"AppleJack is always an exciting time in Nebraska City," said Susan Wirth, education director at Arbor Day Farm. "This year promises to be one of the best, with the bumper apple harvest, ideal fall weather, and the many offerings of the farm's Tree Adventure."

The Tree Adventure at Arbor Day Farm consists of the Lied Greenhouse, Woodland Pavilion, and Tree House Trail. Admission to the Tree Adventure is $5.50 for adults and $3.50 for children 4-12, with toddlers free, and with a seedling tree given with each paid admission. The Tree Adventure is open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. every day during the fall.

Special AppleJack presentations include tree planting demonstrations throughout the weekend, tree climbing, an ice cream social, jelly and antique apple tasting, apple wine samplings, a craft show, and train rides for children.

Guests to the farm can also enjoy such traditional favorites as a visit to the Apple House, center of orchard processing operations, to watch "Rube", the vintage, World War II-era apple sorter in operation. Fresh cider and apples from the farm are also available at the Apple House.
