Arbor Day Foundation to Mark National Arbor Day with Second-Annual 'Arbor Day LNK' Celebration
LINCOLN, Nebraska (April 22, 2024) – The Arbor Day Foundation will host Lincoln’s largest celebration of trees on Sunday, April 28 in Antelope Park. The second-annual ‘Arbor Day LNK’ commemorates the National Arbor Day holiday and is free to the public.
The community event will run 12:30 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. and will feature food trucks, interactive activities, family-friendly exercise classes, and live music from The Wildwoods.
The Arbor Day Foundation will also give away 150 trees on a first-come, first-serve basis. Trees vary in species and size and will be available for pick-up on-site at the event.
“We work year-round to unlock the power of trees all over the world, but there’s always something special about seeing that mission unfold right here in Lincoln. We’re excited for local community members to join us again this year for a celebration of trees and the many benefits they provide.” said Dan Lambe, chief executive of the Arbor Day Foundation.
The Arbor Day LNK tree giveaway is supported by Lincoln Electric System (LES), Olsson Family Foundation and other local sponsors. Their contributions will also support a tree planting in a local park identified by Lincoln Parks and Recreation as an area in need of trees, as well as other much-needed community planting projects.
National Arbor Day is observed across the country each year on the last Friday in April. People can join the movement to say “yes” to Arbor Day by using #ArborDay on social media on National Arbor Day, Friday, April 26. The Foundation will plant a tree in a forest in need every time the hashtag is used.
