LINCOLN, Neb., May 10, 2018 /3BL Media/ - The Arbor Day Foundation in collaboration with TD Bank Group and Sustainable Brands are planting trees and doing clean-up at Stanley Park, Vancouver's first, largest and most well-known urban park on June 4. The tree planting will be done by volunteers attending the 2018 Sustainable Brands Conference -- SB'18 Vancouver -- which is being held in Downtown Vancouver June 4-7, 2018. The new trees are part of the City of Vancouver's commitment to plant 150,000 trees by 2020. To sign up for this event please click here.
"We are excited to partner with TD Bank and the attendees of Sustainable Brands 2018 to get these trees planted in Vancouver," said Dan Lambe, president of the Arbor Day Foundation. "This planting project will be done completely by volunteers not from Vancouver and the attending representatives from multinational companies can show the benefits of trees by leaving the city more sustainable than when they arrived."
The planting is in contribution to the City of Vancouver's 2020 Greenest City Action plan. Work on the Greenest City Action Plan began in 2009, with the Greenest City Action Team. This group of local experts researched best practices from leading green cities around the world, and established the goals and targets that would make Vancouver the world's greenest city. This work was published in Vancouver 2020: A Bright Green Future.
"Our attendees have often told us that they wanted to be able to make a difference in the city that hosts our annual conference, and we listened," said David Fiss, Executive Producer of Sustainable Brands. "In collaboration with the Arbor Day Foundation, we were able to offer this unique hands-on tree planting experience."
The trees planted will not only beautify the area, but also extend the tree canopy of the park and will provide benefits such as cleaner air and water. The investment in the tree canopy will also tangentially help the park to add value to the surround real estate in the area.
"Healthy, vibrant green spaces provide countless benefits to the environment, but also to communities as they have the power to connect us to one another," says Andrea Barrack, Vice President, Global Corporate Citizenship, TD Bank Group. "We are excited to be a part of this initiative and build on our seven-year history of growing and enhancing Stanley Park. Together we can help make the world a more vibrant place."
