Nebraska City, Neb.--Conservation-minded builders and developers from around the country have registered a pledge with the Building With Trees Recognition Program, sponsored by The National Arbor Day Foundation in cooperation with the National Association of Home Builders. Building With Trees recognition distinguishes those who pledge to save trees during land development and construction.
Those recognized for their pledge are: Gap Creek, of Sherwood, Ark., developer Metropolitan Realty and Development, Sherwood, with the services of tree expert Tyne & Associates, North Little Rock, Ark.; Sandstone, the Livable Forest, Hattiesburg, Mississippi, developer Sandstone LLC and tree expert Edward L. Blake, Jr., both of Hattiesburg; Schilling Farms, Collierville, Tenn., developer Boyle Investment Company, Memphis, Tenn., tree expert Fred Morgan, Cordova, Tenn.; Winterset Park, Lee's Summit, Missouri, developer G. David Gale, Lee's Summit, and tree expert Chuck Ulrich, Shawnee Mission, Kan.; Woodberry, Fishers, Ind., developer Scott Twiddy and tree expert Mark Boyce, both with C.P. Morgan Communities, L.P., Carmel, Ind.; Inverness, Huntingdon Valley, Penn., developer Arcadia Land Company, Wayne, Penn., and tree expert Mellon Biological Services, Yardley, Penn.; and Horsemen's Run, Fayetteville, Georgia, developer Parklane Communities, also of Fayetteville, with tree expert Gary Hoopes of Reece, Hoopes & Fincher, Atlanta, Georgia.
To qualify for the program, applicants must meet certain criteria including having a tree expert on the development team, a tree survey prior to planning and design, and a tree conservation plan. The builder and tree expert must also pledge to follow tree preservation guidelines during the construction and maintenance stages of the project.
Participants receive a display plaque, marketing materials, and educational information to share with homebuyers, the public, and community officials interested in saving trees during construction.
"These builders and the people they serve should be proud of this recognition and the commitment to trees and wise environmental stewardship it represents," said John Rosenow, president of The National Arbor Day Foundation. "Trees bring beauty to a building's environment, as well as increased energy efficiency and greater tenant or homeowner satisfaction. Those who design and build with respect for trees deserve our praise and commendation."
In addition to pledge recognition, the Building With Trees program also includes an Awards of Excellence competition. The Awards program honors builders and developers who save trees during construction and considers entries in both residential and nonresidential projects.
