OAK BECOMES AMERICA’S NATIONAL TREE
Fun and Fall Color Highlight Upcoming Weekends at Arbor Day Farm
Nebraska City, Nebraska, Sept. 1, 2004-Arbor Day Farm is alive with activity in the coming months, from a bumper apple crop, to spectacular fall colors, to the many discoveries at the Farm's Tree Adventure. This year's activities also include such special offerings as reenactments from pioneer times, art exhibits, and gardening and planting advice.
"There are activities throughout the year to pique your interest," said Doug Farrar, director of Arbor Day Farm, "but the fall is an especially good time, with the smells, sights, and sounds of harvest. To engage your senses, this year we will have an abundant selection of orchard-grown apples, cider, and other treats fresh from the Farm, including the chance to pick your own apples."
The Tree Adventure at Arbor Day Farm consists of the Lied Greenhouse, Woodland Pavilion, and Tree House Trail. Admission to the Tree Adventure is $5.50 for adults and $3.50 for children 4-12, with toddlers free, and with a seedling tree given with each paid admission. Guests can stroll through the thousands of young trees growing in the greenhouse, explore the interactive exhibits and special movie presentation in the pavilion, and walk the shaded trail that leads to the Canopy Tree House, with its Nature Club Cabin and 50-foot tall climbing tower.
The Tree Adventure is open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. every day during the fall, but Farrar adds that there's no limit to enjoying Arbor Day Farm. The Apple House Pie Garden is well known for its pies and frozen cider drinks, and generations of visitors have enjoyed watching the vintage apple sorter, "Rube", at work inside the Apple House. "Everyone should experience a getaway to Arbor Day Farm," Farrar said. "It's an opportunity for exploring nature in one of its most glorious seasons, and you'll find wonderful activities, great food, and a relaxing environment."
Arbor Day Farm will welcome thousands of visitors during Nebraska City's Sept. 18-19 AppleJack harvest festival, as well as during the region's Living History Days, held through the middle of October. More information is available by calling (402) 873-8717 or by visiting arbordayfarm.org.
