IDAHO ARBOR DAY COALITION RECEIVES ARBOR DAY FOUNDATION AWARD

Nebraska City, Neb., April 12, 1999--The Idaho Arbor Day Coalition, Boise, Idaho, will receive the National Arbor Day Foundation 1999 Advertising and Public Relations Award at a special awards ceremony to be held here Saturday, May 1. The award recognizes programs which effectively promote tree planting, conservation, stewardship, and Arbor Day awareness.

The Idaho Arbor Day Coalition is an alliance of state and federal government agencies, private businesses, and other organizations that worked together to reach hundreds of thousands of people across the state, through billboards, newspapers, broadcast media, and many Arbor Day special events. As well as promoting Arbor Day, the campaign raised understanding of trees as a renewable resource, generated tree-planting enthusiasm, and increased support for conservation and stewardship of forests.

A representative of The Idaho Arbor Day Coalition will attend the 27th annual National Arbor Day Foundation Awards banquet to receive the award. The ceremony is part of the Arbor Day weekend celebration held in Nebraska City from April 30-May 2.

Others being honored this year include the winners of the 1999 Celebration Awards: Dekalb, Illinois' First Arbor Day Celebration, which included 28,000 trees given away; and the Missouri Department of Conservation's "Arbor Week Activity Guide," which offers five days of cross-curricular activities that teach students about trees and forestry.

The National Arbor Day Foundation is a nonprofit education organization dedicated to tree planting and environmental stewardship.
