Arbor Day Foundation Invites Fifth-Grade Students to Participate in 2009 Poster Contest
Nebraska City, Neb. (Date) – The Arbor Day Foundation wishes to honor the top individuals and organizations involved in exemplary tree planting and environmental practices during 2008. The Foundation is accepting nominations for the 2009 National Arbor Day Awards, which honor the very best efforts in tree planting, tree care, conservation and environmental stewardship.
The deadline for nominations is Dec. 15, 2008. The Arbor Day Award winners will be honored Arbor Day weekend, April 24-25, in Nebraska City, Neb.
Since 1972, the Arbor Day Foundation has honored individuals, organizations, corporations, community groups, and schools that have set an example of excellence in environmental stewardship through the planting and nurturing of trees.
Awards are given for work at the national, state, and community levels to recognize conservation efforts such as tree planting and care, Arbor Day celebrations, education and roadside beautification.
Past Arbor Day Award winners include Chicago Mayor Richard Daley, the International Olympic Committee, 2004 Nobel Peace Prize winner Wangari Maathai, Doubletree Hotels, The Home Depot Foundation, Garfield creator Jim Davis, and numerous tree planters at the state and local levels.
To nominate an individual or organization for an Arbor Day Award, send the name and address of the nominee along with a short paragraph about their work to [email protected], or to Awards, Arbor Day Foundation, 100 Arbor Ave., Nebraska City, NE, 68410. The Foundation will contact nominees with an official entry form and information about the Arbor Day Awards.
