Nebraska City, Neb. (April 5, 2007) - The Palisades of Charlotte, N.C., is one of four winners of the 2007 Building With Trees Award of Excellence from The National Arbor Day Foundation.
The Palisades received an award for residential development with more than 500 lots.
Located on Lake Wylie in Charlotte, The Palisades is a 1,600-acre, low-density master planned golf community best known for successfully pioneering new methods for protecting water quality before, during, and after the development of a major residential project. Great care was taken to maintain the lake's continued water quality by preserving trees and planting new ones to filter water runoff.
The development will contain up to 2,500 homes while at the same time using forested land as a nature preserve.
"Trees add both economic and environmental benefits to communities across the nation through increased property value, energy savings, cleaner air and water and much more," said John Rosenow, president of The Arbor Day Foundation. "The Palisades recognized the importance and value of trees in their development process, and they provide a great example of how builders can create new homes and neighborhoods while still protecting the environment."
The Building With Trees program is sponsored by The National Arbor Day Foundation in cooperation with the National Association of Home Builders and Firewise Communities. The program recognizes builders and developers who save trees during construction and land development.
The Palisades received its award at the National Association of Home Builders National Green Building Conference in St. Louis on March 26.
