30,000 trees to be planted in Mississippi River Valley to expand tree canopy
LINCOLN, Neb., May 1, 2018 – The Arbor Day Foundation has announced that Telemark Diversified Graphics is committed to partnering with the Foundation to plant 30,000 trees in the Mississippi River Valley. The partnership was launched by Telemark as part of their sustainability efforts, and the program will be supported by a percentage of Telemark sales over the course of three years, with plans to continue the program long-term.
"We are grateful to have Telemark as a partner, becoming stewards of our nation's forests," said Dan Lambe, president, Arbor Day Foundation. "Our forests are part of the long and important legacy of the people and the land of our country. Thanks to Telemark's partnership, thousands of trees will be planted to help clean the air, protect water resources, and restore habitat and beauty to forests that have suffered devastation."
Originally the Mississippi River Valley was covered with 25 million acres of forestland, but currently less than 5 million acres remain forested, which has dramatically affected the ecosystem. The loss of this precious resource has resulted in a decline of the wildlife as well as in the water quality that has since led to an increasing dead zone in the Gulf of Mexico. This conversion of forestland has also resulted in the loss of its natural flood control buffer. These planting efforts will directly improve water quality, as well as restore and filter the water, and help to decrease pollution levels in the river as well as in the Gulf of Mexico.
"Trees are not only vital to our printing business. They are vital to our environment and overall quality of life. Through our partnership with the Arbor Day Foundation, our aim is to replace the trees used to manufacture our customers' products, and plant them in areas that need them most," said Brandon Kent, VP of Sales and Marketing at Telemark Diversified Graphics. "As the first thermal paper manufacturer conducting this type of reforestation campaign, we hope to serve as the model for others in similar businesses."
