Prunus persica ‘Golden Jubilee’
Did you know there are more than 2,000 varieties of peaches? Peaches originated in China and were said to be the favorite fruit of emperors. Popular for its hardiness to colder climates and its juicy flesh, the Golden Jubilee is among the most popular varieties of the fruit. It tastes great whether you’re eating it fresh, canning or freezing. In fact, it is one of the best early commercial canning peaches. In addition to the tasty fruit, the tree produces pink blooms in the spring.
Here are a few things to note if you’re considering planting one in your yard.
Environmental Conditions
- Grows best in sandy, well drained soils, not drought tolerant (hardiness zones 5–8).
- Is a fast growing tree, growing up to three feet a year and reaching 8–25 feet at maturity.
- Does best in full sun with at least six hours of direct sunlight every day.
- Bonus: survives colder climates better than other peaches.
Physical Attributes
- Produces a tender, freestone, juicy peach that ripens in July.
- Has small, fragrant, pink flowers that blossom in the spring.
