Steinhart Foundation Awards Grant to Arbor Day Foundation

Nebraska City, Neb. – The Steinhart Foundation, Inc. has awarded The National Arbor Day Foundation $77,000 for the renovation of Nebraska City’s Steinhart Lodge. The lodge was built in 1949 by Morton Steinhart in honor of his father, John W. Steinhart, and has been managed by the Arbor Day Foundation since 1985.

Today the lodge is used as a meeting and special-event facility. The renovation will include a heating and air-conditioning upgrade, electrical improvements, and new carpeting and window coverings.

“We are delighted by this further example of the generosity and commitment of the Steinhart Foundation to the health of the environment and the well-being of Nebraska City,” said John Rosenow, president of The National Arbor Day Foundation. “This needed renovation will help Steinhart Lodge serve as an important regional facility for many years to come.”

The first phase of the renovation is scheduled for completion in April, in time for the 2000 National Arbor Day Awards celebration. Award winners will come to Nebraska City from around the country to be recognized by the Arbor Day Foundation for their leadership in conservation and environmental stewardship.

The Steinhart Foundation is a private philanthropic foundation established by Morton and Ella S. Steinhart. The National Arbor Day Foundation is a nonprofit education organization dedicated to tree planting and environmental stewardship.
