CommuniTree Nicaragua
In partnership with Taking Root, Arbor Day Carbon supports reforestation in Nicaragua through removing barriers for small-scale farming families to earn income by planting and caring for trees.
Overview of the CommuniTree Nicaragua Project
Taking Root and Arbor Day Carbon are helping build financial security and sustainable livelihoods through agroforestry and reforestation on previously underused land. Because of Taking Root’s unique technology, this project provides unparalleled transparency in its environmental and social impacts.

Project Type: Carbon removal (ex-ante)
In addition to the profound carbon sequestration and ecological benefits of this project, agroforestry work creates an enduring and growing source of good for farmers and communities. By collaborating with smallholder farmers to incorporate agroforestry into their land stewardship practices, trees in this project provide agricultural products that generate sources of income and bolster the local economy. Landowners also have more incentive to protect trees on their property, rather than pursue agricultural practices that result in deforestation.
Farmers commit themselves to maintain and protect their interventions for 50 years, during which tree growth continues to be monitored via remote sensing.
